Fact-Finding Mission

Got back from my mother's 61st high school reunion. Yup, that's the class of 1949! Of the 34 people in that grade 13 class, only six have died. They are all 79 or 80 years old.  I think I can safely say that not smoking is the biggest determining factor for who made it to the reunion. My mother was the only smoker in attendance. Others who had smoked quit at least 30 years ago. Mom has already had two cancers and would not have made it to the reunion if they had not been caught really early.

So, the final result of the mission: don't smoke and you'll likely live longer.

I do hope it's not take up smoking and then quit that's the secret. Not sure I'm willing to make that kind of sacrifice.
Nope. Not all of them are reformed smokers. Some never started.
The statistics aren't too shabby for the class of '49. It's interesting that your mother was the only smoker who survived. Obviously being a non-smoker is the way to go. You'll certainly live longer.
Mom looks a lot older than the rest of them and I'm going to blame smoking for that one too.
