Mother hospitalized

Yup, just what the subject says; my mother has been hospitalized. She's been having some difficulty breathing for the last 2-3 weeks. Nobody thought much of it because she is a long-time smoker. She had a bladder infection (her first ever at 81 years old). She went to her doctor on Tuesday to get a prescription for a new puffer and he did some blood tests. The results came back Wednesday so he phoned her and told her to go directly to the hospital and not to leave. Apparently, her test results are not so good. She has low sodium, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and a couple of other things I can't remember now. She also has edema (swelling) in her extremities and fluid in her lungs.

My brother relayed the results to me and we both did research online. We hope we're wrong because it points to congestive heart failure. I haven't heard anything since she was admitted to the hospital late last night.

I'm so sorry that your mother has been hospitalized. I guess the one bit of good news is that her doctor realized there was a problem and got her into the hospital. It might have been a lot worse if he hadn't run those blood tests. In any case, I hope she'll be okay. My thoughts will be with her.
Thank you. Mom always felt the receptionist/nurse dismissed her complaints so it's good the doctor paid attention to her test results.
Well, congestive heart failure is one of those things that might not be overly bad, but is never really good. Your mother, on the other hand, is a survivour and a fighter, which is always a good thing. I do hope she gets well soon.
