Hot enough for ya?

We finally installed the air conditioners today and promptly blew the circuit. (Two ACs and multiple computers is just too much. Some computers will have to be powered down during hot spells.) Thankfully, this house has reasonably good insulation so the AC isn't as necessary as in some places we've lived. There was no need to buy any new ACs as the two we already own fit perfectly at opposite ends of the upper level and they should be enough for the cold air to pour down the stairs to keep the main floor cool. The basement is already nicely cool and dry as we have been running a dehumidifier for a few weeks. Yes, I think this was a good choice for a place to live, even hubby is starting to say nice things about this place.

Excellent weekend with one minor exception

lazigyrl and I had an excellent weekend for the most part (more about that in the next paragraph). She came over Friday night, we ate Swiss Chalet, and watched lots of Agatha Christie (both Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot).  Saturday we went out for a while as the house was getting stuffy with the heat of the day. We returned, ate Chinese food, and watched Pride and Prejudice (the Colin Firth one, aka the best only Mr. Darcy in my humble opinion). While we did have a real meal each day, we also gorged ourselves on junk food, Mike's Hard Lemonade, ginger beer, and assorted nonalcoholic beverages.  Sunday we watched Doctor Who reruns (David Ten-inch) before she had to dash for a play.

The minor exception to the excellent time was my neighbours next door.  They moved in one week after we did and they have been the bane of the neighbourhood with their loud music and yelling at all hours.  I had been quite pleasant in dealing with them in the past, asking them to keep it down without lasting success.  Saturday I snapped and screamed at them through their door at 2 am.  They wouldn't open the door to me as I was pounding on it like a mad woman and shouting at them to STFU.  I was frankly surprised that I did not have a bruise on my hand.  I had also called Bylaw Enforcement, but it was prom night and they were very late in getting here.  Anyway, there is some positive to come from this.  I'm not sure if it is having a crazy woman for a neighbour or the prospect of being charged and issued a $405 fine, but I haven't heard a peep out of them since.

The major takeaway is that lazigyrl and I got to catch up with each other as we hadn't seen each other for quite a while.  It was very pleasant (previous paragraph excepted) and it was really sweet that she kept me company while hubby was away.

Thus ends my latest Rogers rant.

And now for something completely different...

We are moving. We signed a lease tonight to move to a 3-bedroom garden home. We take possession March 15 but have our current place until April 30. The date for the actual move will depend upon the availability of friends to help (and how quickly I can pack). We need the extra bedroom to give me an office for working at night. Currently, I am crammed between the living room and dining room and Randy has to stop watching TV at 10 pm when I start working.

OMG! I am remiss

I can't believe I haven't posted since October. I'll keep the recap short.

For my birthday, Hubby gave me a box of chocolate and rims for my snow tires as well as taking me to dinner at the Keg Manor with my stepson and his partner (who gave me a gift certificate for a good Italian restaurant). On top of this, Hubby also gave me an amazing birthday card that made me cry because he doesn't do mushy cards and he reads the whole thing to make sure it is perfect.

The text of the card (not including the personal comments)...Collapse )
I applied for and got a new position with the transcription company I work for as the current contract will end in a few months. Since I generally work nights and sleep days the new position is perfect--it pays a 10% premium for working 10pm to 6am. I start in January.

And the most up-to-date news is that I am typing this with Brimley on my right shoulder snuggling into my neck. This is something he has started to do more frequently and it seems to be one of his new favourite places to sleep. Sort of reminds me of the controlling creature on Londo Mollari's neck in Babylon 5 except that Brimley faces my back. 8-)

I had collected about 3 cases of beautiful rosé wines over the last 5-6 years. They have lived in a couple of different places in that time and come through quite well. Alas, the townhouse we are currently renting has zero insulation in the basement and the heat from the summer has caused some of the wine to spoil. I don't know yet how many bottles have spoiled because I have not opened them all but it does not look promising.

Yes, I'm sad.

Yip, yip, yip...a little piece of childhood.

Here's a little piece of Sesame Street insanity. It was even more fun when these two guys showed up at Polaris a while back. Sorry, I don't know how to embed it, so here's the link.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=KTc3PsW5ghQ

Five hours

That was 5 hours in the Emergency Room waiting and not being able to read to make time pass quickly. I was there because my vision has blurred over the last 4-5 days to the point I cannot read with or without my glasses. (I have not proofread this so don't mind the typos.) They did a CT scan and found a healthy brain with no bleeds or other abnormalities. (Bonus, I got to view the scan with the doctor.) Diagnosis: either an atypical migraine (eyes blurred before headache started) or my eyesight has changed and it just got bad enough for me to notice. Next step is to see my optometrist. I like my optometrist but he is right downtown and parking is a pain, not to mention I have no health coverage for this.

Never Give Up

Family is at it again.

My sister (B) was informed today that she is in kidney failure and that she needs to get an urgent referral to a kidney specialist from her family doctor. She also has to go off some of her trigeminal neuralgia meds. She will be only 59 next Monday and this is not good news for her.

Heat wave

You know it is really warm when you walk into the kitchen to find your bird sitting in the freezer after the door did not close properly.  Hubby walked into the kitchen to find Brimley sitting in the open freezer compartment of the fridge.  Brimley was quite content to stay there.
